"Aunty Kuri! Look at the runners, look at dem!"

The little boy nearly stumbled, wild sable hair flying as he half ran, half toddled through the crowd, seemingly uncaring of the heat or the dustiness that made up Igen as he searched for the object of his desires. Namely, his beloved aunt. He never saw her much these days, but when he did, he made sure she was hardly out of his sights.

His beloved aunt being one Kurenai, rider of Yuhith. She wasn't here as a rider now though, currently, she was just here, at the Igen Gather, with her family. Said family had all dispersed in various directions upon arriving at the Gather, with only Ankari, Kurenai's outgoing cousin and Ankuro, her nephew and the little boy who was currently wrapping himself around her legs.

Kurenai was a bit grumpy, to be honest. She'd hoped she'd get out of wearing anything pretty if she didn't bring anything...only, she'd forgotton how stubborn Ankari could be. Her cousin had demanded she "take advantage of her gorgeous looks", and had promptly hunted down a dress.

Really, it wasn't that bad. In fact, Kurenai could admit it was close to her normal style of clothes. Light and airy, good for hot weather. The skirt was knee length, which suited her fine because she could just pretend it was her shorts, and which suited Ankari fine because she got to tease her cousin about men ogling her legs. The skirt was...well, flowy enough to not stick to her, and clingy enough to give the illusion of something good there that any man could imagine. And the bodice? Well, Kurenai had to admit she liked her cousin's taste - it clung, lightly, to her dainty frame, clearly outlining every curve in her upper torso, the lower neckline something she would normally wear...only this wasn't for practical reasons, this, as Ankari had stated, was to have men salivating over her, and to show off her shoulders and arms. The golden-brown material served her fine, it appeared modest, while showing off her light brown eyes.

Shame the man she wanted salivating over her wasn't here. But then again, he'd probably tease her mercilessly if he was. Kurenai sighed and bit her lip, rubbing her eyes.

Ankari saw this and slapped at Kurenai's arm reproachfully. "Stop that, you'll ruin your makeup!"

"I wear some makeup at home, and it doesn't smudge!" Kurenai retorted, making a face before holding her arms out for Ankuro, who had resumed hunting around the Gather square. He saw the invitation and grinned delightedly.

"Hugs for Ankuro!" he squealed, jumping into her arms as she stepped forward and swung him around, causing him to scream in delight.

"Fly, fly, fly, like Aunty Kuri and Yu!" Ankuro chanted, light brown eyes sparkling as he was swung about. Ankari laughed beside Kurenai, stepping back to avoid being hit and shielding her eyes to watch her cousins fool about. It was lovely, to see the reserved Kurenai let loose like this - if only for her nephew's benefit.

Kurenai's laughter rang out as she and the boy stopped halfway from where they'd started, panting and sweaty from the Igen heat.

"Nice, Kurenai, I think you gave everyone a good show," Ankari teased, referring to the skirt that was still swishing about her cousin's legs. Kurenai stuck her tongue out at her before grinning mischievously at Ankuro.

"Who's Aunty Kuri's favourite boy? Hm?" she cooed, lifting the boy up to blow raspberries into his neck. Ankuro screamed with laughter, struggling to get free.

"Eeew, I get germs from a girl!"

"Awww, don't you love Aunty Kuri's germs?" Kurenai teased, setting him on her chest.

"Don't worry, you'll change your tune, Ankuro. Then you'll want all girly germs!" Ankari teased, sauntering over. She laughed at Ankuro's revolted expression, before groaning at Kurenai.

"Girl, you've smudged your lip paint! Shards, hold still." Ankari fished through her bag, grumbling as she located her lip paint and pulled Kurenai closer so she could reapply it and clean it up, much to Kurenai's complaints.

"Do you want to look like a freak?" Ankari retorted, using a finger to wipe away the smudges and define the new coat along her cousin's bottom lip. Finally, she pulled away, satisfied.

"There, its a shade darker than before, but it'll do. Now...behave! I'm not reapplying it again!"

Kurenai's response was to make kissy faces, and Ankari snorted with laughter. "Mature, darling, very mature. Done that to anyone else lately?"

Kurenai flushed slightly, and Ankuro waved a chubby arm demandingly. "Me! Me! I want kissies!"

Ankari burst into laughter, and Kurenai grinned at her nephew. "So now you want kisses from me? I thought you didn't like girl germs!" Never the less, she obliged, smiling playfully as she leant forward and allowed her nephew to kiss her - a lovely, wet, toddler's kiss that left Ankuro with a smudge of lip paint on his mouth and his aunt sputtering.

"Ugh, I thought I felt some tongue there!" she complained good naturedly, bouncing the toddler boy. "You should save that for all the pretty girls, not Aunt Kuri."

Ankuro looked abashed. "Sorries."

"Besides," Ankari added mischievously, "There might be some other boy that tonguey kisses Aunt Kurenai, and he might not like you stealing his techniques, Ankuro."

"Ankari of Suna Hold! He does not need to know that!" Kurenai was bright red in the face, but she was laughing as Ankari linked arms with her, more freely than she normally laughed in public.

"He needs to know if someone's taking advantage of precious Aunt Kurenai though, so he can beat them up if they break her heart." Ankari burst into giggles again as Ankuro scowled and clung to his Aunt, clutching fistfuls of her skirt.

"My Aunty Kuri!" he said stubbornly. "Dey has to ask meh before dey give her kissies!"

Ankari once again dissolved into laughter, and Kurenai once again blushed bright red.

So why, all of a sudden, do you want to show up at this Gather? Konohath asked boredly as he landed, folding his wings lightly by his side. Of course, the bronze just had to puff out a bit and arch his neck, just incase any holders were watching, while his whirling eyes took in what dragons were there, and thus what riders were there. Amusement brightened the whirls and Konohath chuckled.
Of course, Yuhith's is here.

"Shut up." A'sum retorted as he swung down from Konohath's neck, chuckling as the bronze responded by calling out a mental greeting to the young autumn, lowering his head to briefly to nudge A'sum's shouder in a rare show of affection for his rider, nudging him towards the crowds and laughter. His wanted to find Kurenai, he could tell, and for once Konohath was actually encouraging socializing.

Grinning as he started off, there was really no doubt who he was actually looking for. Or that he was indeed looking for someone, with the way he might settle for looking at one stall, sweep his eys over the occupants and move on. Kuri, small as she was, he'd never really had trouble finding her. Never, there was something about Kuri that drew him closer, yet now he was having difficulty. It certainly wasn't because this was her home... Was it?

Laughter got his attention, laughter he was almost sure he'd heard before. Kuri's. But more relaxed than he was used to hearing. Turning in time to see his Kuri sweep a toddler into her arms, A'sum couldn't quite believe it was Kuri. Certainly, that dress was her, he knew her body enough to know that, but he'd never seen her with a child, so relaxed and open. It was rather adorable actually.

The conversation even more so. As he moved closer, he could catch phrases, something about tongues. Then about asking before kissing. Well, A'sum never really asked, Kuri demanded, and she got it. So maybe that didn't count. Moving closer, she seemed perfectly at ease, and A'sum was almost loathe to disturb that. Wanting and this warred with each other as he stepped up closer, thinking.
Just say hello. Konohath murmured, yawning as A'sum jogged the last couple of steps to tap her shoulder.
"hello Kuri."

The enchanting smells of the spices in the air had lured the two women towards the stalls, or would have, had Ankuro not started started squirming and demanding he be put down. Sighing, Kurenai did so, though she made sure he was still close by. There was no need to though, for something caught the boy's eye, something that caused him to gape in childish wonder before zooming almost comically behind his aunt.

Ankari saw the bronze rider before her cousin did, and her dark eyes widened slightly even as they narrowed in amusement and appreciation. Mmm, he was delicious to look at. Certainly not conventionally handsome, but there was an air of masculinity about him, the lazy walk, the strong features, that screamed sex appeal. And of course, he was heading to Kurenai.

Ankari grinned. Kurenai wouldn't like being pestered by any male, even as, well, yummy as this one. His knots bespoke a dragonrider though, so maybe Kurenai knew him? The look in those dark eyes at the sight of her cousin had her wondering though; that was a very...intimate look to give someone. Ankari's grin widened...someone Kurenai had had some fun with? Oh, he'd be in for it if he was harassing her.

"Hello, big boy," she murmured, eyes glinting cheekily.

"What-" Kurenai broke off, a frown on her face as she whirled around at the touch to her shoulder. Her jaw dropped and her eyes widened in shock, even as her cheeks flushed. She was suddenly very self conscious of herself; her dress was too pretty, it was too revealing, she shouldn't have let Ankari attack her with the face paint and, oh Faranth, how was she supposed to react to him? How would he react to her?

"W-what the shards are you doing here?" she asked, and was horrified when her voice came out as a breathy gasp. Well, there went any hope of kicking Ankari off the scent.

Ankari's eyebrows had risen, in a similar way to her cousin's, at Kurenai's reaction. A grin twitched at her lips...so, this hulking hunk that she was eyeing had an association of the kind that rendered the normally confident Kurenai a tad disconcerted, huh? Most interesting.

"Going to introduce me, Kurenai?" she teased, before chuckling and holding out her hand when Kurenai didn't respond. "Hi there, I'm Ankari of Suna Hold. I'm Kurenai's cousin and best friend." She grinned impishly. "And this little cutie, is Ankuro. My second cousin; Kurenai's nephew from her oldest brother."

"'Lo..." Ankuro mumbled shyly, clutching one of Kurenai's legs and half hiding behind it as he stared up at the big bronze rider. His arms around her leg was enough to jolt Kurenai from her shock, and she blinked, looking down at her nephew before smiling and bending down to pick him up. He was happy to assist her, clutching at her neck and hiding his face in her hair, only to peek out warily at A'sum with wide light brown eyes.

"Not like you to be shy," she said softly, and Ankuro responded by clutching her skirt tighter. That caused Kurenai some discomfort, as his clutching was bunching the neckline of her dress up, causing it to ride down ever so slightly.

Barely a glance was given to the young woman at Kuri's side, apart from the slight nod and smile given at her greeting. Most of his attention was centered on Kuri, and how sharding breathtaking she looked. Grinning slightly as her eyes widened and cheeks flushed, A'sum stopped to bow deeply before her, eyes sparkling cheekily.
"I came to see you of course Kurenai, who else would I come to Ista for?"

Konohath chose that moment to pipe up with a greeting directly to his favourite female, reaching out to Kuri's mind happily.
Hi Kuri! Mine wanted to come see you all pretty. He's very, very happy to see you. Will you come see me later as well? I want to see the dress that is driving Mine insane. The bronze was quick to fall silent after that, settling next to Yuhith with a rather protective stance. This was his autumn. His.

Eyes drawn back to the other woman, A'sum reluctantly turned to grasp her hand lightly, bending to brush his lips across her hand very lightly, stepping back almost immediately.
"A'sum of bronze Konohath, a pleasure to meet you lady." THen he smiled, face softening as he offered one hand to the little boy, attempting to look less intimidating.
"Hello little man. Are you going to look after your aunt for us all? Keep her out of trouble?"

"I heard they've got some lovely, spicy women about here," Kurenai retorted, causing Ankari to snort with laughter. "Maybe you came for that?"

Ankari wasn't insulted by his lack of attention, hardly at all. He was so obviously centred on Kurenai, and in a way that Ankari couldn't say was like they way other men had watched her cousin. Lust had been their primary expression. In this one though, there was something more...just the sheer fact that he was watching her every movement.

"Please. None of that lady business," Ankari chuckled.

Yuhith chirped a greeting. Hiya, Konohath. I did not expect you here - you don't like crowds, or has that changed? The Autumn's voice was teasing, and she flipped her head flirtatiously, eyes gleaming playfully.

I...sure, Konohath. I'll come... Kurenai trailed off, frowning slightly when A'sum leant closer. Her expression changed to one of mild surprise though as he addressed Ankuro, before unconsciously softening at the way he spoke to the shy little boy. She'd never guessed he'd be this sweet with children.

Ankuro regarded A'sum cautiously, his arms tightening around Kurenai's neck briefly before he loosened his grip, giving the bronzer a defiant look.

"Nobody gets to hurt my Aunty Ku'nai!" he exclaimed, but his apparent hostility was belied by his child-like curiousity as he leant forward, light brown eyes watching A'sum as he took the hand. It nearly enveloped his smaller one.

Ankari watched the whole scene, grinning like a loon. Clearing her throat, she said, "Heya, Ankuro, what's say we go find a game to play, huh? Before it gets too dark? Let Aunty Kurenai have a breather and then come and protect her later, how's that sound?"

The little boy blinked before nodding reluctantly and allowing his cousin to take him.

"Bye," he said softly to A'sum before glaring at Kurenai. "No leaving."

"Course not," Kurenai smiled, even as she silently mouthed a thank you to Ankari. Ankari merely grinned over her shoulder, throwing a cheeky wink that had her cousin blushing again before disappearing into the crowd. When they were gone, Kurenai sighed, both in relief and in hesitancy. Relief because now, she had one less problem to worry about, hesitancy, because she was now alone with A'sum.

Faranth, she'd never felt more self conscious. And she was at home! The dress obviously didn't help, and Kurenai tugged the neckline self consciously before giving A'sum a slightly sulky look.

"How'd you know I was going to be here?"

"I haven't really noticed, I came for one reason only." Of course, there was no elaborating on that, merely smiling at her before nodding his head. ONe reason that was her, the only reason he or Konohath would come near any form of crowd or gather. A'sum to see Kuri, and Konohath to see Yuhith. Why else would he come to a gather? Kuri knew as well as anyone that he wasn't a fan of the crowds and loud music, how could she not make the easy jump?

Nodding slightly at Ankari, A'sum was almost reluctant to pull his eyes away from Kuri for any length of time.
"As you wish." If she didn't want to be called a lady, then that was fine, but A'sum still was unlikely to adress her by name. He didn't know her as anything more than a relation of Kuri.

It hasn't changed. Mine wish to see Kuri, and I wished to see you. The reply was honest, the bronze shrugging slightly, before rumbling in almost amusement as he touched his nose to her shoulder. He didn't mind Yuhith, she was like a breath of fresh air in a lot of cases, not completely serious like some dragons he'd come to know and she was his autumn, he wasn't about to share with anyone.
Good. I want to see you. And Mine likes children, he just doesn't make that a well known fact.

"That's a good boy." A'sum chuckled lightly, shaking the boys small hand gently before stepping back slightly. Not wanting to crowd the little boy. He seemed shy, very unlike his aunt. Considering how out going and friendly Kurenai could be at times.
"Bye little man. Perhaps I'll see you later."

Looking back at Kuri, A'sum shrugged one shoulder almost sheepishly. She hadn't been around the weyr, and he'd known there was a gather, and that it was in her home, of course he was going to make the assumption. And if she hadn't been here, he would have left.
"I guessed." He mumbled, almost shyly, before grinning and stepping slightly closer, ducking his head as though to kiss her. His lips hovered just before hers though, and he sighed.
"Shame, I wouldn't want to mess up that lovely face paint." A pause, one hand coming up to touch hers lightly,
"You look brethtaking by the way."

Ankuro had been watching over Ankari's shoulder, and his eyes widened when the big man looked as though he would kiss Aunty Kuri.

"Anka! Anka! He's gonna-"

Ankari grinned and patted his back as the continued through the crowds. "Don't you want him to kiss Aunty Kurenai?"

Ankuro paused before shrugging. "I like him...I guess. He can kiss her."

"Good, because I think Aunty Kurenai really likes him. And he likes her."

That got a childish giggle from Ankuro. "I wonder if he play with me, if I asked."

*

She had to grin at his shyness - that was a bit more like him, yet a little shyer than usual. It was very endearing though, and she melted enough to actually forget the cons of having him kiss her in a very public place, with people around who knew her...like her brothers. Her overprotective brothers. One, Holder of Suna, her home hold. Kuro. The second, a bit useless but protective of his sister, Kusaro, and the third, a rider of Telgar that A'sum knew. K'rim and bronze Neth.

It probably wouldn't go down to well.

She shoved him playfully at the comment about her facepaint, hands "accidentally" tangling with his.

"I'd just find Anka later; she won't ask questions. Well, she will, but she won't tell anyone." Kurenai grinned at his suffering sigh, closing her eyes to half mast as his breath grazed her skin. It was so very tempting to close the distance between their lips, but she resisted, instead giving him a quirked eyebrow and her slight, alluring, but deceptively innocent smile as she ducked away to his side, arm curling through his easily - it was amusing, she only reached his shoulder - and drawing him away from the crowds.

"Why thank you, I picked the dress with you in mind. Anka did the makeup. I threatened her with retribution if she did the hair though; I like it out." She was babbling slightly, probably to keep the blush of pleasure down at his compliment. It was a new one. She'd had sexy from him, gorgeous, ravish-worthy...but never breath-taking or beautiful.

"I'm staying at my old home in Suna Hold. It's not far from his with the dragons, nestled away in the sand dunes. Quiet. Peaceful. Secluded. You can ask Kuro if you want to stay too." She gave him a deceptively innocent wink as they drew further from the crowds. It was obvious, even in the gathering dark and the bright colours of the sunset, that she knew her way around this place.

After some time and further enough away to still hear the Gather sounds, but enough to be walking half in darkness through the sand dunes. Finally, they came to one of those hilly, odd rock formations that the desert is known for. Everything was silent save for the faint sounds of music, and the soft calls of wild runners and fireflies. Kurenai released A'sum's arm, giving him one of her rare, open, cheeky smiles - being home always did that - a silent invitation to follow before deftly twisting her skirts from her feet and grasping a hold in the rock formation with one small hand. She lifted herself up, like she once had as a dirty, outgoing child playing with her brothers, as if she wasn't wearing a dress, climbing deftly to the top of the outcrop. It wasn't very tall, but in the endless plains of Igen, you could view a lot from any height.

There was a specific reason for being here - apart from her obvious intentions to let him "mess her facepaint" up. It was the time of day when the sun was just disappearing over the horizon, and in Igen, the displays of the desert and sky were breathtaking. This little outcrop was just the place to quietly watch it. A part of her too, despite her secretiveness, wanted to show the bronze rider a piece of what she'd grown up in. The spices. The smells. The texture. The colours. The beautiful transcendance of day into night.

Kurenai shuffled forward onto the rock, looking around with a serene sigh. She leant back on her palms, her movements causing that precious necklace to shimmer against her skin as it caught the rays of sunset. Blues. Blacks. Purples. Reds. Oranges. Yellows. Crimson and pink. She smiled softly when she spotted the runners milling about the valley that sloped down from them.

This was home. Even with its memories, it was her contentment, and from another perspective, it certainly agreed with her. It was as if she was spun from this fibre, this time of day in the mysterious allurement of the desert. Black hair. Skin that seemed spice soaked. Eyes that glinted with every single colour of the desert. And most of all, that mysterious, precious necklace that caught every colour of the setting day.

It was beautiful.
